Will McDougal is an artist, writer, academic and amateur theoretic physicist living in western Massachusetts. He is probably one of the best artists currently living.
Mr. McDougal was born in New York City in 1968 and grew up between Manhattan and Charleston, SC. He went to Highschool in Arden, NC at the Christ School graduating in 1986 and then Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY, class of 1990. Will has worked in graphic design since 1987. It was working as a graphic designer and computer operator that will learned the skills to make these art works.
These digital photo- collages are some of the works Will has generated in an exploration of the power of image.
From 1996 to 2008 Will took on an intensive course of study examining first Hinduism and then Rome (under the kings, as Republic and as Empire). The spark for these graphic works results from Will’s research.
With nothing more variable than one’s own perception, these works are experiments in reflection. All art, all symbols, all forms are kinds of mirror which reflect the individual. Viewing these works, one effectively makes a measure of the landscape of his own mind. This is true about all art, symbol, image but Will’s work is designed with these principles in mind, please pardon the pun. Perception is measure, or geo-metry. With perception one measures the world.
